Have you ever seen babydolls with counter-weighted eyes? You know, so that they close when you lay them down, and open when you pick them back up? They've got it backwards. Penny's favorite position to fall asleep lately is sitting up. And as soon as Matt or I lay her in her crib, her eyes pop open. Sometimes, if we're lucky, they close again. But just as often, she starts "talking" in progressively angrier and angrier tones. "Not sleepy! Wanna get up! Look at stuff! Wave my arm around! Hey! Hey! I'm talking to you!" On the other hand, she's making definite progress on the whole sleeping at night thing. Two nights in a row, now, she's gone down around 9:30 or 10 and then not woken up again until 3. And then slept again until 6. And heck, I had to pick her up and wake her at 6, or we'd never have gotten out of the house in time. Heck, we ran late anyway. But you can damn well better believe that if she's still asleep at 6 tomorrow morning, we're letting her sleep. She's got a doctor's appointment next Friday - her 2-month checkup. I haven't had her on a scale for the last three or four weeks, so it'll be interesting to see how much she's grown. Officially, that is - I already know she's outgrown the newborn-sized diapers and can wear some of her "3-6 month" baby clothes without them looking ridiculously oversized. October is going to be the Month Of Many Visitors for us. The 6th through the 8th (Monday - Wednesday this coming week), Matt's dad and his wife are going to be in the area. I guess they're doing tourist stuff during the day, but of course we'll be spending as much time with them as possible. The weekend of the 18th, Karen is coming down from New York to visit and meet the babies. (At least, we're assuming K.T. will have had her baby by then. If she doesn't have it soon, she may stomp into the hospital and demand that they do something about it.) And the weekend of the 25th, my aunt and uncle who live in Thailand will be around. Luckily, none of the visitors are staying with us. (Lucky for them, too. I'm pretty sure, as much as they'll all agree with us that Penny is an adorable baby, they don't want to be woken up at 3am every night.) But I'm looking forward to seeing all of them. We'll have to make sure to get pictures of everyone with the baby. (Penny even has a couple of little Hallowe'en outfits that will be good for pictures.) And of course, pictures will be posted. |
