I'm supposed to be home now. I filled out a ton of paperwork back in June so that I could telecommute one day a week, after my maternity leave was over. We decided on Tuesdays as the best day for it, and I applied for a security code keyfob, and we told our local IS person that I'd need a laptop.

Which means she had at least eight weeks to get it set up for me. More like twelve.

She started getting it set up... Yesterday.

Naturally, things did not go according to plan. The modem doesn't work. There's an issue with some critical software. And the machine only has 64M of RAM, which means that it takes approximately forever to reboot.

So when I left the office yesterday at 4:30, she was still fighting it. So I'm in the office today.

But I have every intention of making it a half-day, because Matt's dad and his wife are in town to visit the baby. Matt's stuck with a meeting this afternoon, but I don't really have much on my plate, so I'll be picking Penny up from daycare early and spending the afternoon with them.

(Actually, it may be more like, she'll be spending the afternoon with them while I take advantage of other people holding her to do some laundry and other small chores.)

They came over last night after dinner and visted for a couple of hours. They brought presents for Penny from, apparently, just about every relative Matt has up in Chicago. So now she's got a much nicer wardrobe than I do (at least for the next six months or so) and a couple of really great-looking toys - including a stuffed frog so soft I couldn't stop petting it.

(I was personally pleased to see that, of all the clothes, all but one outfit had snaps in the legs for easy diaper-access; and only one other outfit was sized 0-3 months and had feet, and therefore runs the risk of being too small for her already.)

So now Penny has officially "met" all of her grandparents, and they all seem bound and determined to do their best to spoil her rotten. As grandparents are supposed to do, I've been told.
