8 December 2003

I didn't do a journal entry Friday because Thursday, on the way home from work, I ran over something and got a flat tire. Luckily, I got the flat only about two blocks from home, so I was able to limp home on it. So Friday morning I called Triple-A and got them to put my spare on, and then I went up to the dealership to get a new tire. (Prius has funny wheels. Only Toyta sells the tires that fit it.)

Anyway, after waiting an hour and a half, they came out to tell me that they didn't have any Prius tires in stock, and I'd have to bring it back after the weekend. So I'm reserving the errand for tomorrow, when I'll be working from home. I can take my laptop and some paperwork and do that while I'm waiting.

But by the time I made it to the office, I didn't feel like attempting a journal entry.

Instead, I spent some time dorking around with the web pages for my Neopets. If you're interested, they're here, here, and here. (They're all three very similar, with just colors and content adjusted for the different pets.) I like the design, though. I might use it for next year's journal.

Friday night, we had dinner with K.T. and Kevin. Tacos, with a decadent chocolate mousse for dessert afterwards. Yum. It was nice, too, to sit and chat and admire each other's babies and generally have a relaxing evening.

Saturday, I had my spa trip that Mom and Dad had given me for my birthday.

It was really nice. It would've been more relaxing if I hadn't been a little worried about Matt and Penny, but it was still fantastic.

I changed into a robe and sat in the sauna while I waited for my first appointment. That in itself was pretty nice, since it was pretty chilly out that morning. My first appointment was for a massage. I've had professional massages before. They're really nice.

When that was done, I went back to the waiting area and had a cup of tea and a cookie while I waited for the manicurist.

I've never had a manicure or pedicure before. The manicure was nice enough, but the polish started to peel off my nails twenty-four hours later. I'm sort of reassured by that, actually - it means that there isn't some crucial step I've been skipping in my previous attempts at fingernail polish. I just have wonky fingernails that won't accept the stuff. Good thing I picked simple clear polish.

I really enjoyed the pedicure, though. It included a warm soak and a bit of a foot massage, and it was more relaxing than the manicure. No one ever sees my toes except me and Matt, so I got a little silly and chose bright Christmas red polish. It turned out to actually look kind of nice. I might add a pedicure to my list of things I might consider doing every once in a while.

After a lunch of Cobb salad, I had a half-hour facial. That, like the manicure, was nice, but not something I'd pay to do again. The woman doing it was a hoot and a half, though. She spent the whole thing telling me about her wild youth.

It might've been nice to go back to the sauna for another fifteen minutes or so afterward, but I couldn't stop thinking about Matt and Penny, so I hurried home.

Sunday night, Matt and Braz exchanged services - Matt helped Braz put a sofa into storage, while Braz helped Matt get our Christmas stuff down out of the attic. Then we all went out and met Jeremy and Elizabeth for dinner.

All in all, it was a pretty good weekend. Penny slept through the night both Friday and Saturday. I'd been hoping she'd make it three in a row, but she got up a bit after two last night and didn't want to go back to sleep until nearly three. Ah, well. It's happening more and more frequently. One of these days, it'll be something we can count on.
