Matt had to work late yesterday, so I picked Penny up from daycare. When I came in, she looked at me like, "Who the heck are you?" A moment later, I got the Big Smile: "Mom! Nice to see you!" It was like she couldn't entirely reconcile seeing me at daycare. Which, I suppose, might be true. Yesterday was the kind of day where I was busy every minute - and yet when the day was over, I wasn't sure I had actually accomplished all that much. I'm kind of hoping today will be a bit calmer. Not counting on it, mind you, but hoping. Matt had told me that he'd found me the "perfect" Valentine's Day present, but that because of a variety of reasons, it wasn't going to arrive until late this week. It came yesterday, earlier than he was expecting, and the "variety of reasons" turned out to be, "because the DVD wasn't released in time for Valentine's Day." He got me Cyrano. But he was right about it being perfect. (He did indulge in a rant. "Why release this movie that close to Valentine's Day, and not release it in time for Valentine's Day? What were they thinking?") I promised myself that I was going to give this diet a try for three months before I re-evaluated it. But the day-to-day yo-yo'ing of my weight is making me crazy. This morning I apparently weighed three pounds more than I'd weighed yesterday. Does stress make you retain water? Was it because I ate dinner late in the evening? Or that I got less sleep than usual? They say you should only weigh once a week, but what if that day turns out to be the day that your weight jumped three pounds for no apparent reason? Do you then have to assume your diet isn't working? I think that would make me even more crazy. Matt's radio alarm went off this morning. "*- being inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, but before that, he'll give one last performa-*" And Matt hit the snooze button. Do they make you stop performing after you've been inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame? That seems kind of unfair. (Don't mind me. I've been kind of nitpicky about precision in advertising lately. There's a commercial I've been hearing lately for the Dodge Durango that claims "perfection" for it, and it makes me grind my teeth.) |
