25 February 2004

Gotta be a kind of short entry this morning, since I'm scheduled to do an audit at 8:30. But that's all right, because I don't have anything much to share anyhow.

Things are busier than usual at work, but I'm hoping after this month is over, they'll settle back to a normal pace.

I tried to feed Penny some peas last night, and that was a horrible failure. Well, I suppose it could have been worse - she could have had a violent allergic reaction to them or something. Instead, she not only made the "what the fuck is this?" face, but after the third spoonful, stopped opening her mouth. Even after I switched back to her favoritest food ever (squash), she continued to whimper and cry each time I wedged the spoon between her lips.

So I'm debating, since she obviously hated the peas, whether to try them again tonight, or just toss the jar and go back to tried-and-true foods for a few days before attempting green beans instead, and then try peas again in a month or so.

I snuck out of work early yesterday and dropped by Staples. They had CD binders with removeable pages (thank goodness - I haven't been able to find them anywhere else), so I bought two (all they had on the shelf). It'll take two or three more to hold our collection, but I'm not in a big rush. Moving the CDs into binders is going to be a slowish project anyway. When we've got the second binder about halfway full, I'll think about going back to Staples to get more.

Still, it felt pretty good to make even that much progress. Putting the CDs into binders is something we've been saying for months that we should do.

Things have been so busy at work (yes, I know I already said that) that I actually started keeping an honest-to-god to-do list. Because someone would ask me to do something, or I would realize there was something that needed to be done, and I would be in the middle of something else, and if I didn't write it down I was going to forget. At one point I got sick of the dozen or so stickies all over my desk, so I consolidated them into a notebook, and thus the to-do list was born.

And then yesterday K.T. said something that reminded me of a project I wanted to do at home. And it occurred to me that that happens a lot - I'll be at work and for one reason or another, I'll think of a home project I want to do. Or something that I want to put on a shopping list.

And now that I'm a (shudder) manager, I've suddenly got meetings that have to be scheduled, so I've started actually using a little calendar book.

My Palm ought to be ideal for these things, but it isn't. For one thing, it doesn't fit in my purse anymore, and it's too small to carry around loose. For another, I have problems remembering to charge it (though I suppose that could be solved by bringing the dock/charger to work).

So I dug around in my desk and pulled out my old DayTimer that Dad gave me when I got my first job. I tossed out the old (2000) calendar, so all that's left in it is note paper, but that's fine. My little calendar book fits into a pocket in the DayTimer pretty well, and the note paper is more than sufficient to keep my work and home to-do lists, and a running shopping list.

And you know my life is slow - or way way too fast - when I spend fully half my journal entry explaining that I'm using a DayTimer again.
