An example of why I think it's a good idea for artists to include their songs' lyrics in the liner notes: There's a song currently on the radio that I really like by Dido, called White Flag. I downloaded it from the iTunes Music Store. It's very pretty. The chorus goes:
I will go down with this ship
I won't put my hands up and surrender There will be no white flag above my door I'm in love, and always will be. Until about two weeks ago, though, I thought the second line of that was, I won't put my eyes out and surrender. (I've been reading too many bloody novels and histories, obviously...) After a second day with no throwing up, greatly reduced diarrhea, and greatly improved appetite, Matt and I decided Penny was probably well enough to go back to daycare. Now, if she'll just stay well for a few weeks, that would be nice. She did do something new last night, though! She's been doing this thing just lately where, if there's a toy out of her reach, she'll kind of lean forward on one knee to grab it. As far as I'm concerned, it's a tiny step toward learning to crawl, so I've been encouraging it. Yesterday, just to see what she'd do, I put her down on her hands and knees. She's making progress, but she's not there yet. About two seconds after I put her down, she'd straightened her limbs to land flat on her belly. And then she rolled over. I blinked, and then thought that maybe I'd put her down partially on top of a toy, which had given her a boost. I moved her over to the center of the mat and gave her a toy to play with. She played for a minute, then rolled onto her stomach. And then kept going, rolling onto her back. She repeated it for Matt a little later in the evening, too. It scared him a little, even, because he'd put her down on the bed, and she rolled over and then over again almost before he could get to the other side of the bed to keep her from rolling off. That's it. My child is, however minimally, mobile. Time for us to start thinking about childproofing a little more seriously. |
Last Year: Yesterday could have been... better.
