Penny did not sleep through the night last night. In fact, she woke up several times. Blah. I'm going to be half asleep all day, I think. (Despite the fact that it was Matt who got up with her both times...)

But in good news, the deck is done! Well, at least the building of it is done. It's still got to be inspected, and sealed/stained, and that sort of thing. But now it's ready for use!

Penny and I, in fact, spent some time out there this morning, while Matt was in the shower.

Finished deck!

Yay, deck!

As it turns out, the stairs to the upper deck are more or less irresistable to Penny. I should post some pictures and movies to the photo album later today, and in one of the movies, you can see her crawling determinedly toward those stairs.

I wasn't too worried about it when she just used the bottom stair to pull herself to standing, but when she grabbed the lip of the second stair and started trying to figure out how to climb, I got a little nervous. It might be time for us to install some gates around the house...

(No, that part isn't in the movie. I am not one of those idiots who will stand there with a camera while their child does something potentially dangerous, just to see what happens.)

Matt's Mother's Day present for me arrived yesterday, too.

He is so awesome. He got me some cookie molds. Not just any cookie molds, mind you - moon cookie molds. The moon cookie molds.

(For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, go see this entry, where there is a picture of the cookies and I explain them in some detail.)

The original celestial mold set isn't being made anymore, but I'd found them (used, of course) about two years ago, shortly before Christmas, and put them on my wishlist. But they didn't last long. I cursed myself - for an out-of-production set like that, I should have just violated the No-Buy Zone and bought the damn things right away, rather than let them slip through my fingers.

Every once in a while, I'd haunt the site, hoping to find them again, but I never did.

I have no idea how Matt found them. Maybe I just didn't look at the right time.

As my mom said, when I called to tell her about it: He done good.

(There will be moon cookies this year; oh yes there will.)
