Dammit. The inspector came and rejected our deck. One handrail is too wide. The bottom step, because our yard slopes sharply, is more than 8 inches high on one side. And there was a third note about something underneath the deck which we couldn't read. So the builder guy is going to call back today and find out what the third note says, and sometime soon he'll make the changes. And because several people have already said that they can't come on Memorial Day weekend, we may make that just our family, and have our big inaugural deckwarming party sometime in June. We haven't decided that for certain yet, but with the addition of the rejection, it's looking like that might be the better choice. I don't have much else to say. Yesterday was a pretty quiet, normal day. Went to the gym, read a book through most of work, went to the grocery store, went home... Fed the baby, fed us, put the baby to bed. Halled. Went to bed. Baby things worthy of note (if only so that I can remember them in a few years): Penny's eating enough solid (well, "solid") food at daycare now that she's dropped back to taking only three bottles during the day for several days now. So Matt and I are only putting four in her lunchbox (it's always good to have a spare). I was a little nervous about that until I recalled that 1) she only rarely took all five bottles in the first place; and 2) they have emergency formula packets, in case she needs more. (I've been hearing since she was six months old that her formula consumption would drop off, now that she's on solids. It's nice to finally see it.) And, though she fought us angrily for a few days, she's gotten pretty good about letting us clean her teeth after dinner. I bought a baby toothbrush and toothpaste at the grocery store this weekend. She still makes faces during the process, but she opens her mouth readily when we tickle her lips and say "Open up!" |
