Hmph. It only took 5-10 minutes for Penny to go back to sleep after she'd woken up last night... but she woke up twice.

We had a little chat about it this morning. "Sleeping and nighttime. They go together like peanut butter and jelly. Wait, you don't know about peanut butter and jelly, yet. They go together like apples and chicken."

The project I have undertaken to do at work this week is what you might call fairly enormous. It involves four spreadsheets, two of which have more than 25 tabs apiece and rows too tall to fit comfortably on my screen.

(Idiots. Spreadsheets are for numbers. This much text really needs to be a database. This is what happens when high-level managers not only develop requirements, and not only develop specifications, but decide that they can build their solution on their own. I suppose I should be grateful that I'm not wading laboriously through a bunch of Powerpoint slides.)

Anyway, since the spreadsheets are too unwieldy to look at individually, much less compare side-by-side, I've been extracting the columns I actually care about and slapping them into a new sheet and printing it out so I can have paper to spread out on my desk. (And even though I'm only using 7 columns, I still have to use Landscape orientation and reduce them to 50% of their original size when I print to get all the columns on one page.)

I'll go through the paper and make my adjustments and notes and changes, and then I'll go back into the two spreadsheets that I'm supposed to be updating and make them.

I'm killing trees, I know, but there had to be a sacrifice made, and it was either the trees, or the combination of my eyeballs and my sanity.

I'm just selfish.
