Listening to the radio this morning in the car on the way to work. The regular morning DJs - a married couple - are on vacation, so there's some others filling in for them. They're... obviously not used to being on the air much, if at all. But whatever.

This morning, they're asking listeners to call in to answer a poll on whether they prefer their partners to have long or short hair. Again, whatever.

Until one woman called in. She liked extremes for her men - either really long hair in a ponytail, or bald.

"Wow," said the uninspiring guy DJ. "How did you come to that?"

"Well, my ex-husband, the love of my life, had long hair in a ponytail," the woman said. "And my current husband, who I haven't made my mind up on yet, is bald."

...

I don't think I can even follow that up. Y'all go on without me.

(In case you were wondering: I have preferred long hair on guys for many years. Though it comes with caveats; some people just weren't made for long hair. And just lately, I've seen some really sexy short hairstyles - though maybe that's just my gut reaction to having my hair constantly pulled. It's gotten to where I don't even bother to say "ow" anymore.)

I wish Penny's tooth or teeth or whatever would hurry up and come in. We've been waiting for them for nearly a month, now, and they're doing weird things to her appetite and her mood and her sleep.

This morning, she was up at 4:55. "Should I pick her up?" Matt asked.

"No. She'll probably go back to sleep in a few minutes."

Alas, she did not, so Matt got up and got her at 5. Which meant that she was tired and fussy again by six, but he didn't want to put her back in the crib to see if she'd take a nap.

So she was really tired and cranky by the time I took over. Thank the gods for Baby Einstein; it was enough to hold her attention for twenty minutes or so. Though it angered her that I wouldn't let her crawl up to the TV to try to grab the toys. At least she was easily distracted from that anger.

I've got to start going to bed earlier, as long as she's going to insist on being up so early.

Having won the battle on making her go to bed and sleep mostly through the night (most of the time, knock on wood, Murphy avert!) I have no idea how to make her sleep just one hour longer in the mornings. Maybe now that we're past the solstice, she'll start sleeping later as the sun starts rising later. I can dream.
