Another restless night, though not as bad as the previous night. I wonder why? Circadian rhythms turning around? Too much coffee? I have no idea. When Penny woke us up this morning, the power was out. Turns out a circuit breaker had tripped at one of the power substations, and we had to stumble through our morning routine in the dark until 6:00. Boy, wasn't that fun. Today promises to be crazy. I'm at work a good half-hour earlier than usual. Sometime between 8:45 and 9, I'll go and take Penny to the new ear/nose/throat specialist (who at least had competent people on the phone, got me an appointment for the very next day, and are right here in town, so that's three better than the other ENT guy). I'm guessing I'll get back to the office around 11 or 11:30. After which I'll have tons of work to do, as we have a delivery going out today and the two fattest documents still aren't done. At this point, I'm just counting down until the weekend... And it's even been a short week! Matt got, from Netflix, the French miniseries adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo. We watched the first hour and a half or so of it last night. (It's like 6 hours long. It's a miniseries.) Mind you, I haven't read the book (I should add it to my list of things to check out from the library) so I don't know how faithful this adaptation is. All I can say, based on what we saw last night, is that it's very, very... French. Good acting. Wonderful costumes, gorgeous scenery. There's a hysterically funny emphasis on food, and a fairly casual attitude toward sex and mild perversion. The special effects are terrible. (Boat in a storm? I could see the cradle it was sitting on; it left no wake, so it didn't appear to move; and the less said about the rain/wind effects, the better. Luckily, a "period" movie doesn't require too many FX.) And they're focusing almost exclusively on the revenge portion of things, rather than the setup or the time spent in the prison. (Which is probably just as well, because the actor playing the young Dantes really doesn't look much like Gerard Depardieu, and Gerard Depardieu himself is entirely too well-padded to look like a half-starved prisoner.) Very French. Still, it's fun. |
Last Year: It's almost a good thing the cat woke us up early.
