A good weekend! Hurrah! Matt took Penny to the doctor on Friday for her cough, and the doctor said that the cough was nothing to worry about, really, but that the rash on her face and around her nose looked like impetigo (a bacterial rash caused by staph and strep strains). So we got some antibiotic cream and a prescription for oral antibiotics if that didn't work, but Penny already looked better after only about 24 hours, so I guess we won't need the oral. Impetigo is contagious, espcially among small children, so we considered cancelling our visit to K.T. and Kevin's on Saturday, but after some consideration, it was decided that since Penny would have been on her antibiotic cream for 24 hours by then, we would continue as planned and try to keep Jess from, say, sticking her finger up Penny's nose. You know, when I said that, I was joking. First thing Jess did when we put Penny down on the floor next to her? Try to shove her finger up Penny's nose. And then she wanted to give Penny kisses. Which was so cute - except that Jess wanted to kiss Penny right on her face.
So, we're really hoping that the antibacterial cream was doing its job, and if Jess shows up with impetigo, we're really, really sorry. But at least it responds swiftly to treatment. Penny's face was pretty much back to its usual perfect complexion this morning, except for a little lingering rash just inside her nose, where it's harder for us to get the cream. We had a fantastic time visiting with K.T. and Kevin, though, and eating turkey (it was time for K.T.'s annual Can't-Wait-For-Thanksgiving dinner) and playing with the babies (and being jealous over Jess's propensity for taking 2 or 3 hour naps) and just having a good time. Even if Penny's determination not to nap made us leave a good hour earlier than we'd planned. Sunday, in the midst of planning our errands for the rest of the day, my mom called. "We're back from Cancun!" "Welcome back! Did you have a good time?" "Oh, yes! And now we need our grandbaby fix. Do y'all want to bring Penny and come over for dinner?" So we re-arranged our errands and went over to my parents' for dinner. We had a good time with them, too. John and Sam were there, and everyone marvelled at how well Penny's walking already, and how cute and happy she is. We had tacos for dinner - and just when I'd been wanting Mexican again, whoo!
Mom and Dad brought back t-shirts for Matt and John, and cute sundresses for Sam and I, and an announcement: They'd bought a timeshare at a resort in Cancun, for two weeks each August, and so we are all hereby invited to visit in future years. I admit to being completely surprised by that announcement, since Dad was complaining just a month ago about how tight money was, but that's their business. I dunno about next year - hands up, anyone who thinks it would be fun to be on a plane for five hours with a two-year-old - but I guess we'll see. At the very least, we'll have one option solidly on the table for a family vacation every year. (You know what I can't believe? I can't believe my parents went to Cancun and not only forgot to take along a camera, but never even considered buying a cheapie disposable camera at the resort. So they have souveniers, but not a single photo. If they hadn't bought the timeshare, I bet they'd be kicking themselves.) |
