Good weekend, whoo!

We didn't do much of anything out of the ordinary. We ran errands, we lounged around the house and played with the baby, we read and watched movies. I went over to a friend's house to do some scrapbooking (and added some more things to my shopping list) and we went out to dinner and just generally had a nice time.

Which isn't to say there weren't peaks and valleys.

Saturday morning, after Penny woke up from her morning nap and had her breakfast, we piled into the car to go run errands. Halfway out of the neighborhood, I went to check my wallet, to make sure I had the check I wanted to run by the bank and cash.

What I was missing was my wallet.

Do I remember the last time I had it? Well, that's a loaded question, isn't it?

The last time that I remember for certain that I had it was Thursday, when I went to pick up my prints from Target - because I'd put the claim ticket for the prints in my wallet, and had to take it out.

But that's not to say I didn't get my wallet out for something at work or at home, and forget to put it back in my purse.

So Matt drove me over to work. Nope, no wallet.

He took us back home. I scoured the house. No wallet.

I had a bright idea, and called Target. "Do you have a lost-and-found?"

"Yeah." (Oh, how I love talking to polite and cheerful salespeople!)

"Great. I might have left my wallet when I was there last Thursday. Could you check and see if you have any? It's a black-"

"Thursday was the 26th?" (Can't put anything past her!)

"Um, yes."

"Okay, ma'am, can I get your name and number, and call you back?" (Just how many wallets do they have to look through, here?)

"Well, I'm going to be out, running errands. Can't you just look and tell me if you have any wallets?"

"The log book doesn't have anything for the 26th." ("And I'm too cool to actually get up and go into the office to look.")

"Oh. All right. If I come in, can I look?"

"Sure."

So Matt drove me over to Target. Instead of going to find the delightful cherub at Customer Service, I went to the photo counter. The girl there remembered me - or at any rate, remembered that a wallet had been left on Thursday. (Ohthankgod.) She sent me back to Customer Service.

There were two girls at Customer Service, and no one else in line. "The girl at the photo counter said my wallet had been turned in."

One girl pulled a cardboard box out from under the cash register and started looking through it. "What's it look like?"

The other said, sullenly, "The log book didn't have nothin'."

The first girl gave the other a look of contempt, found my wallet, verified that it was mine, and sent me on my way feeling much happier.

That evening, I decided I wanted to go out for dinner. Going out to eat on a Saturday in the summer in Williamsburg is a bit of a proposition, so I suggested to Matt that we go early - at 5 or 5:30. Which, incidentally, would mean that we'd be home in plenty of time for Penny's bedtime.

(I don't complain too much about Penny's early bedtime, because it means I get a couple of hours to do grownup things in the evenings... But it does make it kind of difficult to do things like meet up with friends for dinner without having the Crankiest Baby Ever along.)

We tried calling various people to see if they wanted to join us, but everyone already had plans. So we went, just the three of us, to Outback.

That rocked. Going early meant that we only had to wait about two minutes for a table. Our waiter was great, the food was wonderful, and best of all, Penny was in a fantastic mood, and willing to stay in her chair until after we'd finished eating.

(It helps that we had her feeding herself bits of tomato and Cheerios. She eats much slower when she's eating solid food, and slower yet when she's feeding it to herself.)

She's the best.

I even took pictures, but I forgot my camera cable, so they'll just have to wait.
