Wow, sorry about the extended haitus, there. A guy came down from our corporate office in DC to work with me on the Spreadsheet of Hate. He showed up early Thursday morning (early enough that I knew I wouldn't have time for a journal entry) and then decided to stick around for most of Friday morning as well. I actually like the guy himself, but as we were there to work on the Spreadsheet of Hate... the less said about Thursday and Friday, the better. It's a good thing we had a pretty good weekend. Penny was in a fantastic mood, and I think we may have finally nudged her a little closer to more normal sleep. Saturday, we went out to dinner with the Brandts and Penny didn't get to bed until nearly an hour past her usual bedtime. So Sunday morning, she woke up around 5 and then actually let Matt put her back to bed, and she slept until (O beautiful day!) 6:30. As if that weren't enough, she woke up in the best of moods, then didn't get tired enough for a nap again until 11 - at which point she crashed hard, and slept until nearly 1. I was a little concerned that a long nap in the late morning meant she wouldn't sleep again until bedtime, but she was already yawning and rubbing her eyes at 3, so she took another two-hour nap. And she was tired again by 6:30. With various machinations (such as letting her watch TV, and giving her a bath) we stretched it to almost 7:30 before Matt carried her up to bed. She woke up twice during the night - once at 2, and once at 3 - but both times was quiet again before I even reached the door to her room. And then she slept until 5:30, which is what Matt and I had decided was the absolute earliest we'd let her get out of bed. (We can't make her sleep, but by golly, we can make her stay in bed. At least until we move her from the crib to a "big-girl" bed. Which we're not going to do until we have some assurance that she can climb down without falling.) So it would've been better if she hadn't woken up during the night, and if she'd slept later than 5:30, but I think she's moving in the right direction. (As if I needed another reason to hate Daylight Savings.) Anyway, it was a nice weekend. As I said, we had dinner with the Brandts (the new baby's going to be a girl, by the way!) and my parents came over for a couple of hours for some baby time, and generally Penny was in a happy mood and did a lot of self-entertaining, and things worked out so I didn't have to make dinner all weekend. Matt and I watched Equilibrium last night. The script was the bastard lovechild of Orwell's 1984 and Huxley's Brave New World, while the film elements - sets, costumes, direction, action choreography, etc. - wanted badly to be compared to The Matrix. The result was a totally implausible (Bad Liz! Do not bring a brain to a sci-fi action flick!) but fun popcorn-muncher of a movie. The only real frustration was that all day Sunday, our internet access was a little... weird. A router problem somewhere, I think - we could get to IRC, but not on IM. Some websites were accessible, but others weren't. Some e-mail was taking a long time to get through. It looked like there was still a problem this morning. I hope it's fixed by the time we get home tonight.
And just so you're warned - there won't be a journal entry tomorrow, either. It's my birthday, and Matt and I are going to take the day off. Drop the baby off at daycare, and spend the day doing grown-up things. Like going to see The Incredibles. |
