We had a perfectly good morning. Penny slept almost all the way through the night - she woke up briefly at 5, but she was back asleep in about five minutes. And then Matt went in and got her a bit after six, and she spent most of the morning being happy and silly and adorable. A good morning. Except that right as we were getting ready to leave, she turned up with- Well, it's TMI if you're not another parent, so I'll just say Matt had to drive to work with the Saddest Baby Ever in his car. Poor Matt. A snippet of conversation that took place at dinner last night: Matt: So. If we were to get DirecTV with TiVO installed, what shows would you want to program into the TiVO? Liz: Well, Queer Eye,, obviously. And Sesame Street for her. ("Her," obviously, means Penny.) Matt: And...? C'mon, one more! Liz: Hmm? Matt: Your boyfriend...? Liz: Oh! Yeah, and The Daily Show, of course. Duh. (pause) Man, the TiVO is going to think we're gay liberal muppets. Matt: Yeah. And if we were to add The Iron Chef, we'll be gay liberal muppets who cook! Liz: Wow. We're Bert and Ernie. As the above conversation might have suggested, we're considering giving Cox Cable the boot and replacing them with DirecTV. Possibly with TiVO. Actually, I think we've more or less already decided to get the DirecTV; we're just debating whether to get the TiVO as well. DirecTV would cost a little more than cable - but not much more, and it's got a wider variety of channels (including several kid-friendly channels). And the way Cox keeps nudging our bill upward, that gap is closing quickly. So once we decide yea or nay on the TiVO question (And I think we're about 75% decided to get it) then that's a done deal. We're also thinking about switching our internet service from dial-up to DSL. That would cost more - but not as much more as it looks on the surface. Once we got DSL installed, we could cut out our second phone line, which would reduce our phone bill by quite a bit. And then we'd have a broadband connection, which we've both wanted for quite a while. (Just not badly enough to give even more money to Cox, which was our only broadband option before DSL was available in our area.) I have to say, though - it strikes me as amusing that we're such enormous geeks, but it's taken us this long to jump on both of these bandwagons. (And we haven't even really jumped, yet. We're just gathering ourselves for the leap.) |
