15 December 2004

Well, I was at work all day yesterday, but I'll only be here for half the day today. Penny was fine early in the evening, but around 6, I took her upstairs for a diaper change and thought she felt a little warm, so I took her temperature. (I always check. My internal temperature regulation system is Not To Be Trusted.)

101.3. Definitely not lowgrade, but not too bad.

I gave her a dose of Tylenol, and though she was obviously dragging, we kept her up until 7 before letting her go to bed. (If we let her go to bed too early, she wakes up at some absurd time like 4am.) She didn't even whimper when I put her in the crib. She grabbed her blanket and Piglet, rolled over, and blinked at me sleepily as I smoothed her hair and put the quilt on her.

I went back downstairs, and Matt and I logged into irc to finish the 7th Sea combat. That was good; we all got to be dramatic and piratical and swooshy. (Speaking of piratical, check out the cool toy Matt bought for himself yesterday!) And we even got to sleep before 11.

Penny slept straight through to 6:15 or so this morning. But she felt hot when I picked her up, and the thermometer read 103.2. (That's actually 102.3, after the non-oral-reading adjustment. But 103 looks a little scary.)

So, another dose of Tylenol, and she needs to stay home. Matt's staying home with her this morning, and I'll take her for the afternoon, just so we don't both have to completely drain our vacation time.

I'm not too worried; I expect it's just some random virus. And her mood is pretty good considering how awful she must feel, though she did start crying when I packed up to leave for work. I hope Matt was able to calm her after I left. Pretty much all she wanted to do this morning was sit on a lap. She didn't even want to look at books, and only her very favorite toys got much response.

Though she did seem to like her Christmas present from Matt's mom - a toddler-sized easel with a built-in chalkboard. Yes, we went ahead and gave it to her as soon as we got it. She doesn't know the significance of individual days, so there's no anticipation to savor, and we wanted the big-ass box out of our living room.

Oh, I just got a phone text message from Matt that she's fallen asleep on his lap, so I guess he got her calmed down just fine. I foresee a day comprised of several naps and a lot of TV.

Here's hoping she's feeling better tomorrow.
