Today's my dad's birthday! Happy birthday, Dad!

Matt and I went to bed a bit late last night because of the 7th Sea game. Just as we were on the verge of sleep, Penny woke up crying.

Matt went in to soothe her, but she started in crying again as he left the room. She's been doing that lately - crying or whining for maybe thirty seconds after we leave, then settling down and going to sleep. Fine.

Except she didn't settle down. After ten minutes, Matt said, "Do you think she's teething?"

I got out the Children's Tylenol, and we gave her a dose.

Ten minutes later, I went into her room to soothe her. She quieted almost immediately. I stayed with her for a few minutes, then went back to bed...

Penny started crying again.

This went on for more than an hour and a half. At nearly 12:30, Matt tripped over a case of diapers as he came out of her room, and one of my dragon pictures fell off the wall, and the glass in the frame shattered.

He turned on the hall light to pick up the pieces, and Penny went quiet. In anticipation, I supposed, of our coming back into her room.

But we didn't open the door to her room again, and she stayed quiet the whole time Matt was picking up the glass. Then he turned out the light and came back to bed - and she started crying again.

On a hunch, I turned the hall light back on.

She fell quiet.

Crossing my fingers, I went back to bed. A few minutes later, she whimpered a little, but then subsided. And I didn't hear anything else from her until amost 6:30 this morning.

Guess it's time to get Penny a nightlight.
