25 February 2005

Ah, it's amazing what a good night's sleep can do for a person.

So here we are at Friday. And I don't really have anything to talk about today.

Penny's growing by leaps and bounds. It seems she adds a new word to her vocabulary every couple of days. Her latest trick is that, when she wants me to come with her somewhere, she doesn't just go to the edge of the room and whine - she comes over to me and takes my hand and leads me.

Now, if I could just convince her that she really doesn't have to whine when I'm refilling her cup.

Work progresses apace. Next week is a bit of a crunch-week for the audit, but only a minor one, so I don't anticipate too much wailing or gnashing of teeth.

I still haven't settled on a new writing project, now that Willow Bough is done, but I'm itching to write. Maybe I should go back to Silver and Green, but K.T.'s working a different project, and there's no way I can finish S&G without her. I just can't do horror. So I guess that's shelved for now.

Circle in the Sand could use a good, heavy-handed editing job. Neither K.T. nor I have even looked at it, really, for the last eighteen months. But I'm not in the mood to edit. I'm in the mood to write.

Dawn has been stomping around in my forebrain for the last couple of days, but his story is... Eh. It wouldn't translate particularly well to my world - it's too magic-heavy, too obviously derivative of D&D. I don't have to write to Gaena, but Dawn's story is pretty cliché, too. Stolen from half-a-dozen other sources and barely smudged by way of disguise.

Of course, I don't have to write something that I think has any publication potential, either. I could write it up just for my own amusement, just to give my writing bug something to chew on.

And here. I don't generally put up links except as an illustration or expansion of whatever it is that I'm talking about, but this one was just too funny for me not to share. By way of BoingBoing - a masterful mocking of romance novel covers. (After I showed this to Karen, she felt inspired to come up with her own, which had me rolling on the floor. She said she was going to submit it; keep an eye out for it in the readers' submissions section!
