7 March 2005

A mostly good, if busybusy weekend.

Saturday we went down to Chesapeake to visit the Hickses. K.T. and I left the babies with the men for about an hour and went to her consignment shop - which was, of course, not taking anything. It's my luck, I swear.

At least they were willing to let us leave our stuff, and the lady promised to call K.T. with the credit when they got around to it. So we decided to attach my stuff to hers, and we'll take my credit out of what I owe her for the outfits she picked up for Penny last week.

Then she needed to stop at Babies R Us to pick up a refill for her diaper genie. Oh! rightly is it called The Evil Store!

For lo! as we passed through the boys' clothing section, we saw a set of clothes built on a "pirate teddy bear" theme.

Pirate teddy bears! Could you resist? I THINK NOT!

So I bought Penny an outfit.

When we got back to the Hickseses, we sat around for a while, talking and playing with the babies and watching them play with each other.

K.T. and Penny wonder if Jess plans to share her Diet Pepsi.
(No, I don't know why the couch looks all weird like that. Something to do with the image compression algorithm and very narrow stripes, I imagine.)

Penny and Jess played peekaboo for quite a while over the pile of stuff on the table. Which is to say, actually, that Penny played peekaboo, and Jess laughed like it was the funniest thing she'd ever seen, ever. And, of course, all us adults laughed at the both of them.

I'd like to say that Penny thought she was leaving a tasty surprise for Jess to find later, or maybe just exploring shapes. But I suspect she was just trying to hide the carrot so I'd stop trying to make her eat it.

K.T. had recently made a batch of her wonderful meat pies - with venison in them, this time, which was a treat - and she shared with us for dinner. Yum! Penny ate about two bites, then realized we were feeding her meat, so she refused any more.

We didn't leave until a bit past 7, but Penny resisted the siren call of sleep until we were nearly halfway home, which I thought was an impressive accomplishment after such a busy day.

Sunday, we went over to my parents' house for dinner. As always, they had great fun playing with the baby and spoiling her rotten. Matt and I probably would have had a better time if he hadn't been coming down with a cold. Poor Matt. We wound up leaving very shortly after dinner, even though it was still early.

As we went to bed last night, Matt said, "If I start snoring, just nudge me or kick me or something."

I thought, If it gets too bad, I'll just move to the guest room so we can both get some sleep.

I woke up around two and noticed that Matt wasn't in bed, and surmised that he'd moved to the guest room on his own. I wondered if I had been snoring (we're a family of congestion, though Matt's currently the winner) but this morning he said, "I hope I didn't keep you up too much."

Huh? It turns out that every time he'd coughed or sniffled, I had - in my sleep - reached out and patted him on the shoulder. I don't remember doing it, but he assumed he was waking me up, and eventually got up to keep from disturbing me.

(He's so nice, even when he's sick.)

One last picture to start off the week:

I have this display box with an easily-removable top... Matt put it on top of her once as a joke, but now Penny's started bringing the box to us and begging to wear it.
