Weekend weekend weekend. It's getting to the point where I need my weeks to recover from my weekends. This weekend, it was The Encroachment Of The Two-Year-Old. It takes Penny approximately 0.3 seconds to flip from an adorable toddler to a shrieking banshee of sadness and fury. With phases. I'd hoped, since Penny wasn't very mouthy as a baby, that she wouldn't be a biter as a toddler. But it seems we're not to be spared. So she got her very first "time-out," and she was mad at Matt for most of the rest of the morning. Whee. Also, she decided to start experimenting with nakedness when she discovered that she could get her pyjamas off all by herself. She tried to pull her diaper off, too, but Matt and I drew the line there. Having a mostly-naked baby running around the house is cute. Having a fully-naked baby running around the house and potentially peeing on the carpet - not so much.
But it wasn't all bad. Sunday morning, she decided to sleep in, and it was a glorious 6:30 before she woke up. And we took her to the park Sunday afternoon, and she had a glorious time oscillating between the swings and the slide, and only fussed a little when we dragged away.
I went to another direct-sales show on Saturday - Discovery Toys. I wish I could've seen Penny react to the toys, first, but the sales consultant promised that if she didn't like what I bought, I could exchange it. And, because I'm a dork, I signed up to host a show in July, right before all the kids have their birthdays. And I finally got to see the Animal Planet Dragons special. Medium cheese-factor on the script, but beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. I don't know if I want to buy the DVD, but I might rent it and take many screen captures. (Oh, rot. We forgot to set up the VCR last night. We've decided to start recording Sesame Street each day for Penny and letting her watch it in the evenings, after school. She's old enough now to actually be able to learn something from it, and we're getting awfully tired of the same Elmo DVD over and over. Must remember to set up the VCR tonight.) So that was my weekend. Now it's back to work - but at least work doesn't grab my hand and whine and fuss until I get out of my chair and follow it across the room... every 30 seconds or so. And Matt and I are one week from our anniversary - we're going to go out on Sunday to celebrate, but that means we need to decide on a movie, or some other activity, and where we're going to eat that's both nice and convenient to my parents' house, which is where we're dropping Penny for the duration. I was just about to observe that I'm in a writing rather than an editing mood today, and so I don't know if I'm going to get very far with editing Willow Bough again today - but then I just realized that I left the binder at home, so I guess I won't be getting any editing done today.
