Happy Anniversary, Matt! Seven years we've been married, and sometimes it seems like just yesterday that we kissed for the first time. We had a really, really good weekend, too. Penny decided to take a break from the incipient 2-year-old behavior - neither Friday nor Saturday had even a single tantrum, amazingly enough, and the fits she threw Sunday were minor and easily stopped. She was, pretty much all weekend, happy and adorable and loveable. The weather simply could not have been nicer. And Sunday afternoon, my parents came over to our house. When Penny begged to get out the stroller and go for a walk, Dad started wheeling her down the street, and Matt and I climbed into his car and fled for our anniversary "date." We went to the movies, to see The Upside of Anger, which was really, really good. Funny and poignant. We really enjoyed it. Also? I suspended the diet for the evening. I haven't had movie theater popcorn in two years. I know lots of people hate it, but even after years and years of working in movie theaters and knowing how it's made and everything... I still love the stuff. After the movie, we went out to dinner. More lovely diet suspension! I was torn between Japanese hibachi and Indian food, but ultimately decided on hibachi. I almost even ordered some sushi that sounded really good, but figured I'd probably be stuffed anyway on the meal. But I did have a glass of plum wine. (I paid for it this morning when I stepped on the scale, of course, but I was expecting that. I'm hoping a few days of being good will undo the damage.) When we got home at 8:30, Penny was still up. (Though to give my parents credit, Dad had thought her bedtime was 8:30, not 8. Why Mom didn't just tell him, I don't know.) It was okay anyway, as Matt and I like to get her little hugs before she goes to bed, and we'd talked on the way home about how we were going to be unable to resist peeking into her room anyway. And she put up no fuss about going to bed, even though we pretty much walked in, hugged her and kissed her, and carried her straight up the stairs. And then she slept soundly all night (with all the playing she did with my parents, I'm not too surprised!) and was charming and wonderful this morning. Yay! A little anniversary present for us. Matt and I decided not to exchange presents yesterday, though - we're saving that for today, the actual anniversary. Which is good, because two of the gifts I ordered for him still haven't arrived. I checked my email from them, and noted that those had been the first items to ship, but the email says estimated delivery date is between the 16th and 21st. So Matt may get those late. Grr. Must remember, next time, to take these things into consideration when selecting my shipping method, I guess. Today promises to be... full, if not busy. The president of our business unit is coming to our office for an awards ceremony, for the SCAMPI (the Project of Doom). We got the plaques in last week. Already three people have come to tell me that they think it's a gyp that I'm getting one of the "little people" plaques instead of the pretty manager plaques, because I did a good 80% of the work. Such is corporate life. However, I have a hunch, based on some things that were said and some questions that were asked, that when they hand out the bonuses that are attached to the plaques, mine will be a bit bigger than everyone else's. I could be wrong, of course. We'll see. But anyway, the awards presentation is scheduled to last from 10 to noon. And then I've got a conference call for half the afternoon. So I expect today will be extremely busy and not really productive at all. But I'll get a bonus out of the deal. Whee! The rest of the week actually looks fairly relaxed. I'm looking forward to it. Update, 12:30pm: ...Or maybe there are no bonuses attached to the plaques, and all I'll get out of the whole stupid schmeer is a plaque and a few nice things said about me in front of some muckity-mucks.
