22 April 2005

Just as Matt was making dinner last night, his phone rang, so I answered it. It was Colleen. "I'm up in Williamsburg," she said, "and thought maybe I could stop by and visit."

"Sure!" I said.

So Colleen and Patrick dropped by and played with Penny for a while. It took Patrick a little while to warm up to the unusual location and people, but when he saw Penny's little cooler full of plastic balls, he suddenly exploded with excitement.

They stayed until almost 7:30, which was a nice visit, but it kind of set off the rest of our evening - we still hadn't eaten dinner, and Penny usually gets into her pyjamas at 7, and... Like that.

I don't know if it was the excitement of the visit and the lack of pre-bed cool-down time, or the new tooth she's cutting, or what, but Penny... did not sleep well.

Hence, Matt and I did not sleep well. I was only just drifting off to sleep at 11:15 when she woke up the first time. She didn't go back to sleep for more than a couple of minutes until almost 1:15. I couldn't unwind enough to sleep until nearly 2.

And then I woke up every hour, on the hour.

So I'm a little spacey this morning. It's a good thing that three of the four documents going out today were pushed off until next week. I need to come up with something quiet and simple to work on today.

Or, y'know, just spend the whole day playing Minesweeper.

It should be a nice weekend, though. My brother and sister-in-law are coming over this evening to babysit for a little while, so Matt and I can go to the bookstore. ("Geek date," Matt said. "Yeah, and?" I answered. I know you wish you had my sense of wit and banter.)

Saturday, I need to go to Sam's Club for some stuff, which means we may well drop Penny off with my parents, or at least drop by and visit them before we go. Though that's still up in the air.

Sunday there's a scrapbooking doohickey, which I'm looking forward to, though I still need to pack up all my stuff for it.

If I can just manage to wake up for it all... (Penny's gonna find herself dosed up with a little Tylenol tonight, I think.)
