6 June 2005
We takes the good with the bad, yes we do. I was the last person to leave the office on Friday (which means it's my fault the coffee pot didn't get turned off - oops!) but I actually left earlier than I had on Thursday, at about 6:30. Saturday, Matt and I dropped Penny off with my parents while we went to see Revenge of the Sith. It was better than I'd feared, if not quite as good as I'd hoped. The dialogue was still horrible, and some of the acting was still pretty bad. But it wasn't as bad as the second movie, where the actors apparently weren't allowed to actually emote. I'd talk more about it, but I have friends who read here that haven't seen it yet. Matt and I decided to splurge and go out to dinner after the movie. Imagine! A meal out! In which we don't spend the entire thing desperately attempting to keep the baby entertained! We even had dessert. (And I'm here to say - fine, Ruby Tuesday's low-carb cheesecake doesn't have a patch on the ice cream pie - but it's actually pretty damn good cheesecake.) Sunday was a little rockier. Penny spent most of the cross and out of sorts. She was being Daddy's Girl, which doesn't usually bother either of us, except that Matt had to mow the lawn. So I eventually took her outside to watch, and she got mad at me because I wouldn't let her go close to him while he was trimming edges. Then I took her inside - by her request, mind you - and she had a meltdown because Matt didn't come with us. I tried to give her lunch while he was in the shower - again, by her request - but she refused to eat (screaming all the while), and when she threw her bowl of grape tomatoes on the floor, I gave up. Took her upstairs and put her in her crib for a timeout. I meant to go back upstairs after five minutes and get her - but she'd fallen silent. I waited another couple of minutes, then went up and peeked, and she'd conked out, fast asleep. So she had her nap before lunch, instead of after. She was mostly okay when she got up, though still a little easily-fussed, and still very much Daddy's Girl. She threw another tantrum before dinner, when Matt and I insisted that she wait the 15 minutes to eat that it was going to take for our dinner to be done. That wasn't as bad as the morning tantrum; at least she calmed down to let me read a book to her, and when we did finally sit down to dinner, she ate instead of continuing the fit. It was tiring, though. Matt and I went to bed a bit earlier than we've been doing. And I don't know about him, but I slept hard. (I do remember that on toward morning, I was dreaming about buying a new mattress, and testing them by taking a nap. How tired do you have to be to dream about taking a nap?) Penny slept in this morning - I had to go into her room to get her at 6:30. I was worried she was ill again, but she didn't feel especially warm (except that she's almost always a bit warm first thing in the morning, and my hands are usually a bit cold) and once she was fully awake (like Matt and I, Penny is usually a little grumpy when she first wakes up) she seemed to be her usual cheerful self. So here's hoping today's better. I get a reprieve from the stupid proposal until afternoon, when they'll review last week's panic-work. I'm taking full advantage of the reprieve, because the stupid customer changed the proposal's due-date from the 13th to the 15th, which means I'll have to be working this for two days more than I expected. Grr! I'm thinking of taking the 16th off. (Though I need to consult my calendar; I'm already planning to take several days off in July for the summer bash/reunion.) |
