Kris called me the other night and told me that one of the mothers from Emma's preschool playgroup was trying to start a book club, and did I want to join? The club is being set up specifically to cater to mothers of small children. It'll meet only once a month, at 7:30 or 8pm on a weeknight, so the babysitting fathers aren't too inconvenienced. (Not that Matt has ever been less than completely willing when I've asked him to babysit so I could go somewhere.) I think I'll give it a try. It might be nice to meet some more people, and get out of the house for something social once in a while. And as Kris said, a book club is a great way to force yourself to read even when you don't think you have time for it - and to read things that you wouldn't normally think of picking up. So I need to go to the bookstore this weekend, I guess. I'm looking forward to it. I hope I enjoy it. It's not a patch on the weekly gaming/movie night, of course, but Penny's so high-maintenance that I think that kind of thing will be beyond us for at least three or four more years. Not even counting the demands of any other children owned by the gaming group. Not that she isn't totally worth it. |
