15 July 2005

Well, the sore throat isn't improving any. So I'm going to call the doctor and see if they can fit me in sometime today. I got out a flashlight this morning and took a look, and it looks like hamburger back there. Or maybe cubesteak. I didn't see any white spots, but I'd rather not wake up Saturday morning with full-blown strep throat and have to wait until Monday to get antibiotics.

Aside from the sore throat, I feel fine. No fever to speak of (my thermometer registered a low-grade, but it's not the most reliable thermometer on the planet - I mourn the loss of my old toxic-risk mercury one), no muscle aches, no unusual tiredness, no headache- Well, okay, I do have a slight headache. But I suspect that's just the result of tensing my facial muscles and wincing every time I swallow.

I'm torn between hoping the doctor tells me I'm sick - because that means I'll have an excuse to go home and lounge around the house all day - and hoping he says it's just a bad allergy attack - because that'll mean I haven't infected Penny.

Ah, well. Even if I come back to work after seeing the doctor, it won't be too bad. There's not much going on today. Maybe I'll even manage to finish editing Willow Bough - there's only one chapter left to go.

At least my dentist checkup went well. Clean bill of health. Or teeth, anyway. And the hygienist, whom I adore, managed to get the weird stain off my teeth that had popped up in the last month or so. (Apparently it is a not-uncommon side effect of a high-protein/low-carb diet. Weird.) Anyway, I'm pleased; I was almost certain I was going to have to resort to bleach to get it off.

Not much else to say today... See you Monday!
