The technology gods continued to hate me yesterday until late in the morning. It turned out that it wasn't just our DSL that was befuddled, but Verizon's, upstream of our ISP. This was good news in that it meant we weren't doing anything wrong and that the problem should fix itself as soon as Verizon got their act together, but bad in that it meant confusticate and the Meadehall server were also down, which was frustrating in a number of small ways. My desk printer was momentarily befuddled with my crazy demands that it - get this - print something. I called T-Mobile to put some more minutes on my cell phone, and after being on hold for three minutes (having less than 10 minutes left on my account, mind you) they told me that their system was down, and I'd have to call back later. But late in the morning, Matt sent me his login information for another, non-broken account, and we all met on an alternate irc server to chat. I finally got my document printed. And I found the land-line number to call to refill my cell. When I got home from work, the power and the DSL were back up, and Jeremy got confusticate rebooted in time for the Meadehall session. So the rest of the day was pretty good. Last night we had, without doubt, one of the most ferocious thunderstorms I've ever witnessed. The thunder and lightning were nearly continuous - I could almost have read a book, the sky was lit up so often. I kept expecting Penny to wake up at any moment and get scared. It didn't calm down until almost 12:30. So I'm a little tired today. But the good news is that we've got a meeting in the conference room today that I'm not involved in, which means I get to close my office door and be a hermit if I want. I'm curious to see whether being tired will stall out my restlessness enough that I can finally write this scene I'm working on, or if it'll just make me even more stumblefingered than usual. Obviously, I'm hoping for the former. But if it's the latter, well, I've got a couple of books to read. |
