Yesterday was moderately productive at work, which was nice. I'm starting to settle into my new office and figure out how to organize things better, and what's most convenient for all those day-to-day tasks. The downside, of course, is that I didn't get much of anything done, writing-wise. But I think that's okay. I'd rather be busy than bored, most of the time. The upside is that I have a vast expanse of white wall over my desk that's too far away to use for a whiteboard or anything "useful," so I finally have an excuse to commission some art from my brother, so I have something interesting to look at. I went to my book club last night, and that was fun. We're starting to get more comfortable with each other and the whole process. It was interesting that some of us hated last month's book, and some of us loved it, so we got to discuss what we did and didn't like about it. For October, we're going to read a book of ghost stories, and then instead of meeting at someone's house, we're going to go on one of the CW Ghost Tours. What fun! And then we went ahead and decided to do American Gods for November, but then with the holidays and all, we pushed that meeting back to the beginning of December, and we'll skip the December meeting altogether rather than try to work it in around all the holiday stuff. So instead of having a specific book to read in December, we're going to do a book exchange at the Nov/Dec meeting (like a white elephant or ornament exchange, but with books). I'm unreasonably excited. I'm also proud of myself that even though Kris had lots of very tasty food, I confined myself to a handful of cheese cubes and a glass of tea. (Proud, but sad. I missed out on chocolate-dipped strawberries and key lime pie.) When I got home, Matt said, "Penny was inconsolable. She wailed and screamed for Mommy... Nah, I'm joking. I'm not sure she even noticed you were gone." I'm not sure which of those is worse... |
