K.T. called at 4:30 to say that she and Kevin and Jess were all unwell, and therefore they wouldn't be coming up to visit. I called Matt and Karen quickly, but they'd already left Pierce's with the barbeque.

So Matt and Karen and I ate a lot of barbeque, and we introduced Karen to cole slaw as a condiment (don't look at me like that until you've tried it), and she agreed that it was mighty fine barbeque. Only she didn't phrase it quite like that, because she's a yankee, and the phrase "mighty fine" would sound awfully peculiar coming from her mouth.

And Penny did not like barbeque, to the point of taking the bit that she tried back out of her mouth. But she ate her yogurt and some of her apple, and was in a really good mood for most of the evening, so all was well.

We adults sat up late to watch the first Sports Night DVD. Karen had never seen it before, but now she's hooked.

Penny slept well all night, and woke up at 6:20 this morning, happy and cheerful and wonderful, and she did not lose her shit at all this morning.

So, aside from the Hickseses not being able to come up and hang out, I had a great evening and a nice morning.

Karen's down to see the Hickseses today, which is probably good, because the daycare solicited parents to contribute things for their in-class Hallowe'en party tomorrow (not to be confused with the after-school Hallowe'en party Fall Festival, which is also tomorrow, or Matt's office Hallowe'en party, which is also tomorrow. Penny is going to be one sugar-laden toddler by the time we get her home tomorrow night). When Matt asked if there was anything in particular they needed, he was told, "The kids really liked those cupcakes you sent in for Penny's birthday."

So I'll be baking tonight, I guess.
