The Brooks house, this morning, around 6:15:

Penny: "Daddy?"

Matt: gets out of bed and shuffles into the bathroom.

Liz: sits up, yawning.

Penny: says some more stuff that Liz can't quite make out. "Daddy?"

Matt: comes out of the bathroom and heads for Penny's room. "Hi, sweetie-- You got out of your crib again."

Penny: "Penny get out!"

So, yeah. Good thing we put that doorknob protector inside her door yesterday, I guess.

So it turns out that Matt might have to go to New York (state, not city) for a couple of weeks, for work.

I'm not especially worried about it. It'll be more work, obviously, but she's much easier to care for now than she used to be. And I'm sure it would just kill my parents to be asked to help out a few times.

I am a little miffed that if he goes (it's not certain yet, though we'll know today or tomorrow) it will be next week, which means we'll be missing our date to see Mirrormask in the theater. I mean, sure, I could go by myself, but what's the fun in that? And I won't be able to go see Brokeback Mountain with K.T. and Crystal, like we were planning, either, I guess.

At least I'll still be able to go to book club, since we'd already lined up my sister-in-law to babysit for us that night. And Matt's boss promised him he'd be home in time for Valentine's Day, for sure.

And on the upside, it'll give me a decent reprieve from the guilt of leaving her with Matt for all my various activities.

So I guess we'll see.

We were a classroomful of Igors, watching in half fear, half wonder as our Frankenstein dissected the lifeless words, showed us their meaning, and then brought them to life before our astonished eyes.
