26 January 2006

So last night was book club, along with a surprise baby shower for our extremely pregnant member. It was fun, and I took some pictures that I'll put up in the photo album later, including a really fantastic shot of Lorie's face, when she walked in and saw everything.

I'm about half considering dropping the book club, though. We've acquired a couple of new members, which is great, but everyone else still all goes to the same church, and while they're all very nice, they're also all very Christian, and I'm beginning to feel a little... out of place.

Maybe, if Kevin gets that job up here, K.T. and I will start a book club for sci-fi and fantasy readers. And we'll let men in.

I'm having my hearing looked at none too soon. I realized last night during the baby shower that my left ear has closed up entirely; I can barely hear out of it at all. Matt came to bed last night and said something, quietly, but I was laying on my right side, with my right ear against the pillow, and I had to sit up and ask him to repeat it, because all I'd heard was, "Sss ss sssss ssss sss?"

It's not any better, today. And it's not like I don't hear anything on that side. It's more like... if you've ever stuck your finger in your ear, and it causes that sort of weird... Where the sound of your own body drowns out any external stimuli. It's like that. I spent most of the party listening to my own pulse overlay this very echo-y, dim background of the women talking.

Scrapbooking after work tonight. I'm looking forward to that, especially since it'll be the last one for a while. I mean, I can probably clear off the end of the dining table while Matt's gone, and set it up to do scrapbooking there, but part of the fun of these Thursday sessions is to be able to talk with Elizabeth and whoever else might show up while we're doing it.

And Matt and I have a date, after Penny goes to bed, to watch a couple of Buffy episodes. There's two more episodes on the disc I currently have, and I should be getting disc 6 today, so hopefully we'll be able to finish out the season this weekend, before Matt goes to New York.

Tomorrow night, I'm going straight from work down to Chesapeake, and K.T. and Crystal and I are going to go see Brokeback Mountain. I hope it's good; I've been hearing some really great stuff.

But before all this fun, I have to get through work. I've got a meeting from 11 to noon, and then another from 1:30 to 2:30, and then another from 3 to 4. At least they're all relatively short meetings, but ug. And I'll need to spend a good hour this morning prepping for them.

Maybe next week will be slow enough that I can actually get some writing done.
