17 February 2006

I wrote a good 1200 words yesterday -- more than I've written in weeks. It felt really good, and I even got the plot to go somewhere.

Of course, I re-read what I'd written last night and realized that the subtext wasn't nearly as clear as I'd thought it was, so I'm going to have to go back and flesh it in. But that's not even as disappointing as you might think, because I'd covered all the plot points I'd wanted for that chapter, and it was only half the length of the other chapters, so I was trying to figure out how to stretch it a bit.

Maybe I'll be able to do some more writing today. You never know!

Matt's coming home tonight!

Only for the weekend, mind, but I'm excited nonetheless.

If his flights are on time, he'll be landing in Richmond a little after 8, and my Dad will drop him off at our house probably around 9:30.

(Of course, there's a major weather front moving through the area, so I'm not convinced that everything will happen on time, but I'm trying to remain optimistic.)

I hate February weather. Yesterday it was absolutely perfect spring weather -- temps in the low 70s, almost no humidity to speak of, sunny and bright. Tomorrow, according to the radio, we're going to get snow.

But I don't care. Matt's coming home!

It's exciting in so many ways. I've missed him, of course, and it'll be good to see him. And I don't sleep especially well, alone -- I don't have trouble falling asleep, but I don't drop as deep. I dream more, and subsequently wake up more. So it'll be nice to get to sleep deeply for a few nights.

Coincident with that, Matt's been missing Penny as well as me, so he's already volunteered to take over most of the duties that only require one of us -- getting up with her in the morning, supervising her bath, that sort of thing. Which is just extra time for me to sleep in or relax.

And at some point Saturday or Sunday, we'll drop Penny off with my parents for a few hours so we can go out and spend some time alone together.

I'm not working Monday, so Matt and I can have some time together before I have to take him to the airport in the afternoon. And I'm not working Tuesday, because that's when Penny's surgery is.

So you probably won't hear anything, except maybe in the blog, until Wednesday.

Toodle-pip, and I hope your weekend is as nice as I'm hoping mine will be!
