So Matt and I went to see V for Vendetta on Saturday, and then last night I finished re-reading it. I think my initial impression of the movie still holds -- it was pretty good, and not a bad adaptation, given that I don't think some of the stuff in the book would have held up for an American audience and that you couldn't have squashed all the assorted subplots into a two-hour movie anyway. I'd like to talk about my major disappointment in the movie (which is different from Matt's big disappointment), and a couple points of confusion, but I can't do it without spoilers, so it'll just have to fall between the cracks for now. Maybe later, if I still feel like talking about it, I'll put it up in my blog with the spoilers hidden under the fold. I can see, sort of, why Alan Moore is angry with them -- they totally downplayed the book's dominant theme. But Alan Moore is an angry crackpot, and everyone knows this. He's also cunning as a weasel, and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to learn that his little temper tantrum was calculated specifically to make people wonder what he's talking about and to get them to read the book after seeing the movie. Anyway, I thought it was a fun movie, three and a half stars. It would've gotten four stars if they'd ended it just a little differently. |
Last Year: Of course I placed an order, and of course I went over budget. 5 Years Ago: I think I've got it narrowed down to two suspects. Confess! - Tangle's playlist Shark Tale The Emporer's New Groove The Crying Game - Neopets - the photo album - scrapbooks 15.4 lbs lost |
