10 April 2006

Yes, I had a fantastic weekend. My goal was to get January and February done in this year's album, and maybe do some work on my college album as well, and I did. I did eleven pages in the year album, and 4 in the college album. So I'm feeling pretty good about my progress.

Not as good as K.T., who did thirty pages and finished laying out her wedding album, which was her big goal for the weekend. (The woman who won the "most pages" prize did freaking ninety-four pages, but she was just slapping down pictures with no mats or decorations at all, and only the barest minimum of writing.)

This was the house we stayed in. Across the street were some hotels, and on the other side of the hotels was the ocean.

The motorcycle convention was something of an annoyance. Now, I know I tend to hyperbolize, and you might be thinking that "motorcycle convention" is merely my way of saying that there were a lot of motorcycles on the roads. But no, really, there was some sort of event, including a parade right past our house Saturday evening. It made sleeping a bit difficult, with bikes roaring past at all hours.

Shortly after that, though, we had a rainstorm, and that put a damper (heh!) on the bikers.

We spent most of the weekend sitting right here, making our albums.

The only real downer to the weekend was misplacing my camera Sunday morning as we were all packing to leave. That had me nearly frantic -- not so much that I thought it was stolen, but if it was in someone else's bag by mistake, it could be weeks before I got it back, and I didn't want to go that long without it. Or worse, if it had gotten shoved in a drawer or fallen behind some furniture, and I'd never get it back.

Luckily, K.T. found it in her bag shortly after I dropped her off at home -- she called me, and since I was only five minutes away, I turned around and came back to get it. The only bag in the car that I hadn't opened and searched through, of course. I think what had been happening was that I'd been handing her things to pack, and when I was done, I moved the camera to clear some space on the dresser for my own packing, and she thought I was handing it to her, and packed it without really looking at it.

We did take one break to walk down to the beach and let the water wash over our toes.

We'd been initially planning on seeing Take the Lead when we got back -- we didn't expect that either of our husbands would want to see it, after all -- but it turned out that Kevin does want to see it, and neither of us had slept well, so we decided to skip the movie; KT will see it with Kevin, and I'll put it in my Netflix queue.

All in all, it was a great weekend. We met some neat people, and had fun swapping stories and showing off our ideas, we ate great food (and far too much of it -- I only hope I can undo some of the damage between now and Sunday!) and sang along to the stereo and generally had a wonderful time.

I kind of wish it had been a whole week -- we were so focused on getting our projects done that we didn't really take much time to relax, or enjoy the hot tub, or the fact that we were at the beach. With a few more days, we might've been a bit more liesurely about things.

Ah, well. If I go to Cancun in August, you'd better believe I'll be doing some relaxing there!

And when I got home, I discovered that Matt had planned to make slow-cooked pot roast for us for dinner. If I'd stuck to the original plan and gone to the movies with K.T., I'd have walked into the house and been hit with the smell. As it was, it turned out tender and juicy and perfect.

And then when Penny's bedtime rolled around, she curled up in my lap and let me rock her for a few minutes, and then gave me a big hug and a kiss when I laid her in her crib.

What a wonderful end to my weekend. My sweeties are the best.
