So yeah, yesterday was pretty good. I didn't get quite as much writing done, but I did finish off the chapter. And I finally bought my airplane tickets for Cancun. I called my mom to tell her about the tickets, and she was very excited. I could almost feel her bouncing, over the phone. Already, she's got a bunch of ideas about what we should do, and she's got another three months to plan. I'm going to have to rein her in, I expect. But it's nice to know she's so happy about it. I know that her ultimate goal is to get Matt and I to bring Penny, of course. But getting one of us there is a step in that direction. Matt's starting his new job today. I'm so excited for him! I hope everything goes smoothly; he spent most of yesterday evening doing paperwork. I know Friday's a weird day to start a job; it was originally slated to be Monday. It's an insurance thing, though -- he can't get medical insurance until the month after he starts. If he waits to start Monday, it'll be May 1st, and he wouldn't be insured until June. If he starts today, then his insurance can start in May. I don't know who makes up these rules. How dumb is that, really? Oh, well. The first day at a new job is always mostly settling in and meeting people and getting your workstation set up and stuff installed and like that, so he can do all that today and then be ready to actually get down to the work on Monday, hopefully. He's still not entirely sure of the dress code. I mean, they told him that bunny slippers weren't allowed anymore, so I don't think they're terribly formal -- but that doesn't mean that his particular brand of snarky t-shirt is going to be welcomed. I hope he can get a feel for it quickly. He doesn't have much in the way of short-sleeved shirts that fit the "business casual" bill. We might need to do a stop at Target this weekend to rectify that, I guess. But it's almost the weekend! Whoo! We don't really have any plans for this one. Might take Penny down to visit my mom, though Dad's going to be on a camping trip all weekend. Otherwise... just the usual stuff. See you on the other side! |
