24 August 2006

Well, back at work.

In my absence, Becky had her baby (the day I left, actually); the documentation staff nearly killed each other and acquired a new appreciation for all I do for them; and my boss decided to rearrange the offices of about half the staff. (Not mine, thank goodness, but Heather won't be next door to me anymore.) The actual office move is taking place tomorrow, so nothing productive will happen today or tomorrow while they pack and shift stuff around. At least it'll give me some more time to work on getting caught up.

I had 108 emails waiting for me, but I've already winnowed out the spam, the news deliveries, the list mail, and all the other stuff that won't require any action from me. The stuff I actually need to read carefully and possibly take action on currently numbers about 35. Plus one voicemail message.

I'm glad I took yesterday off from work. It took me four hours just to write my journal entry without any work interruptions. And then when I decided to run up to the store for a few things, I discovered that my car's battery had run down with over a week of sitting and doing nothing. It wasn't a big deal -- I called AAA, they sent around a tow truck to jump it for me -- but it was a good hour lost, and if I'd been planning to go to work, I'd have been in a fluster about it.

As it is, I'm feeling pretty calm. I don't think there's any deliveries for the rest of this week, so I can just amble slowly through my inboxes.

I spent yesterday catching up on my personal email (I even jumped back into the 7th Sea game, though I need to get Cat going again today) and my usual online stuff. Except for when I went to the store, I spent all day yesterday on the computer.

Penny is reacting to my return by being sort of clingy. When Matt went into her room to get her this morning, she immediately started crying and asking for me. When he brought her into our room, she cheered right up, but she didn't want to let me out of her sight.

It's okay, though. I can take a few days of clinginess. I missed her, too.
