Slowly but surely, I'm catching up with the work that piled up while I was gone. And even making some progress on getting the photo album updated, though it may be next week before I actually have that posted.

But my computer desktop picture is now me splashing in the ocean, and I converted four or five other vacation pictures into bitmaps to use, as well. It'll be nice, when things are frustrating or busy, to just stop and remember what it felt like to be relaxed.

It turns out the office rearrangement was due in general to the fact that the people in the other suite have been complaining for years about being treated like second-class citizens, and to the fact that the only manager in that suite is often on the road, so they're frequently unsupervised. In specific, there's a couple of individuals who require closer supervision.

So the people who need close supervision are now in high-traffic areas where managers can look in on them, and we've split the other suite's population approximately in half and swapped them with Heather and most of her team. The theory is that people who have friends who are now in the other suites will go to the other suite more often to visit with them, and at the same time, they'll get to know some of the other people there a little better. And some of the people who were complaining about their opinions never being heard are now that much closer to the office's main manager, who for all his faults is in fact pretty consistent about maintaining his open-door policy and making time for people who want to talk to him. And when he's not around, I almost always am. I couldn't begin to tell you how many people come to me with their complaints when they don't want to bother the boss with them.

It's an interesting theory, and I guess we'll see how it works out in practice. I can tell you that almost no one is happy about the move.

So everyone's packing and vacuuming and hefting and polishing today, and not a lot of work will get done. But I'm told this week was chosen for the move because there's not a lot of work to be done, anyway, at least by the people who are moving.

I'm a little tired today, despite going to bed before 10:30 last night. It might have something to do with Penny having a nightmare around 3:30 this morning.

What kind of nightmare results in a child sobbing and begging to wear a particular dress?

This morning when we asked her about it, she couldn't tell us. She remembered crying in the night, but when we asked about the dream, she just said something about Superman's daddy, which I think is her default dream answer.
