29 August 2006

First, for those of you who care and were not already aware, I updated the photo album yesterday, including the August album, with pictures from Penny's birthday and some other random stuff; and a separate Cancun album, with excessively long captions/explanations/anecdotes on all the pictures.

So Matt officially bought World of Warcraft yesterday, and I'm on the trial membership but will probably buy it also.

Last night after dinner, Matt and I sat down to play for a bit before Penny's bedtime routine. She abandoned whining about wanting to watch a movie, plunked herself down on the couch between us, and watched, fascinated, while Matt fought some alligators and birds. (I was wandering around a town, which she decided was boring.)

This morning, I was trying to coax her out of bed. "Come on, honey, let's get dressed and go downstairs."

She looked at me with hope lighting her eyes. "Fight the birds?"

I do believe I've got a future gamer on my hands.

One good thing about the game -- it takes two hands and a fair amount of concentration, which means that it limits my random trips to the kitchen for snacks I don't need.

I don't want it to suck up all my time, though, so I may try to establish a schedule for the other things I want to do. For instance, Matt wants us to pick one night a week to watch movies, so our Netflix queues don't entirely languish. And I'd like to establish one night a week to do scrapbooking, so my albums don't get too terribly far behind.

And if I'm going to keep going to book club, I need to make some time to read. Though that's easier to fit in little fits and starts. I just need a book that will hold my attention a little better than Madame Bovary. Man, that was a bad choice.

I went back to Jazzercise last night. I hadn't been for two full weeks.

It was... not as bad as I was afraid it would be. I won't say it was easy, though, by any stretch. Still, it kind of felt... not good, but good for me.

Almost good enough to justify spending the rest of the evening plonked on the couch playing Warcraft.
