We had a good weekend. Friday night was fairly calm. Saturday we ran errands, and then in the afternoon, Karen came over for a visit. We sat around and talked Warcraft, and walked over to the neighborhood picnic, and came back and had taco salad for dinner. And then after we got Penny put to bed, we got our computers set up and played Warcraft until somewhere around midnight. Sunday, as soon as we were up and had breakfast, we did the grocery shopping, then went down to my parents' for lunch and Penny's nap. I wasn't sure she'd nap at all -- my parents have a new kitten that Penny is, of course, fascinated with -- but she went right to sleep. Unfortunately, she woke up again less than an hour later. After another hour of trying to get her to go back to sleep, we gave up. She played with the kitten for another few minutes, and then we packed up and headed on down to Chesapeake. Jess's birthday party was fun. K.T. made oodles of food, and even if Jess and Penny were the only little kids there, they seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely. I took a bunch of very adorable pictures of the girls playing together, and would post some except that I forgot to bring my camera to work with me this morning. Oops. Anyway, no one had a screaming tantrum, and no one got badly injured (there were a number of falls that the girls shook off immediately, and Jess managed to bang herself on the chin bad enough to bring on tears, but she was up and chasing Penny and giggling in about five minutes, so it wasn't too bad). They weren't too sure about the piñata until the candy and toys came out of it, but then they jumped all over it. Two quotes from the day are worth remembering: "There is cheese! In my nose!" Kevin and I both had our daughters on our shoulders and were urging them to tickle each other when Jess, um, slipped. Hilarity ensued. And then after the piñata had spilled its guts, we were all sitting around sampling its wares. K.T.'s dad suddenly said, "This is really horrible!" and then promptly ate another piece. "I mean, awful!" And then he finished the packet. So, all in all, a good time was had. Shock of shocks, I logged out of Warcraft early last night, before 10:30. But, lest you think I am well-rested this morning, I then went up to bed and read until Matt came upstairs at 11:45. This week's business includes: Taking my car to the shop tonight so they can figure out why the battery keeps draining; getting my hair cut (I'm still deciding whether I want to do something drastic or just get it trimmed); a visit or two from Karen; and then Ladies' Night on Saturday. For which I still need to figure out what I'm going to make/bring. |
