18 October 2006

Yesterday was surprisingly productive. I got almost all the work done that I had assigned myself for the day, and the bit I didn't finish was waiting on someone else, not my own laziness.

I also updated the photo album with the pictures from Chicago, and today I'm hoping to get to the pictures from Jess's birthday party.

My car is still in the shop -- they ran all the tests they could on it yesterday morning and called to tell me everything checked out fine. The only thing they could think was to let the car just sit on their lot all day and night, and see what the battery level looked like this morning, to see if it was draining faster than it should be.

Hopefully, they'll see a significant discharge, replace the battery, and I can get a friend to drop me off at the dealership to pick the car up after work.

I'd say "at lunch," but I've got an appointment to get my hair cut at lunch. The split ends are causing tangles and driving me nuts, and I've got half a mind to chop it all off. We'll see when I get there whether I've got any courage or if I just meekly request a four-inch trim.

So Karen, who was coming over anyway, picked me up from work yesterday. We went back to my place, chatted and played Warcraft until Penny's Elmo DVD was done (it would have been Sesame Street, but apparently our PBS station ran some sort of special across the usual Sesame Street timeslot, so there wasn't a Sesame Street to show her).

Then we went out to La Tolteca for dinner, where Karen was muchly amused by watching Penny's dinner of ketchup and sour cream (occasionally supplemented by a spoonful of rice).

After dinner, we watched Cirque du Soleil: Dralion, which was amazing. I'm always vaguely annoyed by filmed live performances -- especially things like dancing and acrobatics, where I want desperately to make the camera sit still for a few minutes so I can watch what I want to. But the filming on this was better than some and no worse than most, and the show was wonderful. I've always loved acrobats and jugglers. I'll have to put some more of these into my queue.
