23 October 2006

It was mostly a good weekend, at least for me.

Saturday morning we went shopping -- we picked up candy for Hallowe'en, and a costume for Penny. We steered straight past the aisle with the animal costumes so Penny wouldn't be tempted by yet another dog outfit, and she nearly immediately set her heart on a Cinderella dress. It's pretty similar to the one she's already got, but at least it isn't stained and ripped.

Then we went to the library, and she actually played with the toys.

While she was taking her nap, I baked, and then that evening I went to Ladies' Night, which was great. We ate and talked and drank and generally had a lovely time.

Penny was a little cranky at home, alas, and she continued to be mildly out of sorts Sunday morning, though her mood improved at the grocery store, of all places.

We spent the afternoon playing, mostly. I took Penny outside to stamp around in the rain puddles in her ladybug boots, and we walked down to the end of the street and back (I was letting her steer), and later we went outside again to pick what I expect is the last of my tomatoes (there's still two green ones left, but I'm not sure they're going to ripen, this late) and Penny blew bubbles.

I went to move laundry later, only to discover that Matt had done it while I was outside with Penny. So I made chicken curry salad for dinner, which I know he really likes.

Of course, this morning, she worked herself up into hysterics so she couldn't stop, and spent the whole morning sobbing and crying and begging for hugs. Half of me wanted to just curl into the rocking chair with her and rock her back to sleep, since she was obviously a little tired..

The other half of me is counting the minutes until this Saturday, when my parents are going to take her overnight.
