The Fall Festival at Penny's daycare went better than we had any right to expect; she ran gleefully back and forth between rooms and giggled at her friends in their costumes, and with some coaxing even attempted a few of the games. I took pictures, but left my camera cable at home, so you'll have to wait. She did generate a complete meltdown on us as we were leaving, because I wouldn't let her play in the wet grass at the side of the parking lot. But at least it was after we had left. Saturday afternoon, we took her over to my parents', and she gleefully played with their kitten for an hour or so, and barely seemed to notice when Matt and I got up to leave. We went out to dinner and then went to our Hallowe'en party, and had a great time. Even if I was sort of taken aback by running into K.T.'s ex and his -- merciful gods -- two-year-old daughter. Matt and I tried valiantly to sleep in Sunday morning, but were up by 7:30. We puttered around the house for a bit, and then collected Penny from my folks. Mom swore she'd been a perfect angel, and showed us some pictures she'd taken of Penny cuddling Smoky. Of course, my folks had spoiled her rotten, so her temper was a bit chancy for the rest of the day, but we managed to get all our chores done and had a mostly good evening. Penny's edging closer to potty training, I guess -- she's becoming more aware of having a full diaper, at least. Which is a good thing, except that she's figured out how to take them off, which is not. We had several messes to clean up on Sunday, and another one this morning. Though if we're going to be cleaning up messes anyway, I'm tempted to say this coming weekend is when we'll just put her in panties and let her figure it out as best she can. I doubt it could be much more frustrating. |
