Hallowe'enie!

Penny had, astonishingly, actually not made a huge mess of the dress we sent her to school in -- she even managed to keep it clean through dinner. So we let her wear it out for trick-or-treating, instead of the Cinderella dress that we'd actually, you know, bought for her to wear trick-or-treating.

But she was a big hit with all the grownups that we ran into. She wasn't so good about saying "Trick or treat!" but I did make her say thank you to everyone who gave her candy. I tried to get her to only take one piece from each offered bowl, but most everyone insisted she take at least two.

One guy peered down into her bucket and said, "Oh, goodness, you're still practically empty! We'll have to fix that!" and put a huge handful of candy in it.

Penny had a great time, except that she was scared of any house with colored lights or big decorations; and she was sort of unwilling to grasp the idea that we could only go to each house once.

But overall, a success. Once we got home, we let her pick out one piece of candy to eat (don't look at me like that; it was already bathtime, and she'd had candy earlier in the day at the school party, too) and then I plopped her in a bath -- she was covered with sticky goodness. How does one get lollypop drool on the back of one's neck, I ask you?

The Treat for Matt and I? When I undressed her for the bath, her diaper was still dry -- as far as I know, that means she'd held it for at least three hours. Probably more like four. Despite having soup for dinner and then going out into the cool evening to trick-or-treat.

Whoo!
