16 April 2007
As promised, a busybusybusy weekend. Or at least, Saturday. I got up with Penny, and we watched a few Superman cartoons, ate breakfast, and then we got dressed and I took her to the Williamsburg Farmer's Market. She was very excited about all the dogs we met, less thrilled about actually letting me do any shopping. Which was okay, because I didn't have any cash with me, anyhow. I bought a bundle of pussywillow branches, and looked at (but didn't buy) some potted herbs. Penny had a fine time running around in Merchant Square, and I was happy to let her. Just as I was about to steer her back toward the car, I noticed some musicians setting up off to one side. So I bought Penny a brownie (a big brownie. with frosting and sprinkes and mini M&Ms on it) to bribe her to sit more or less still for a while so we could listen to the music. ![]() She was fascinated with watching them actually make the music, and really seemed to enjoy it, brownie notwithstanding. Just as she was finishing up the brownie, it started to sprinkle, so we headed home. Overall, I call the experiment a success. Starting in May, the market will be open every Saturday morning, so we may make it at least a semi-regular activity. It was a nice way to get out of the house. All that fresh air and running around had worn Penny out. She refused lunch (can't blame her, with that whole brownie in her) and fell asleep fast when we put her down for her nap. I poked around for a bit, and then took off for Sara's baby shower. ![]() Obligatory belly shot K.T. did a great job with the party -- there was enough food for twice as many people, all of it very tasty. The gifts were, naturally, widdle and adorable (or else extremely practical -- like the diaper genie). ![]() There was an obligatory doofy game, but it was so doofy it was kind of fun. I mean, we were launching little plastic babies with little gun-shaped catapults! This is not something to take seriously. ![]() While I was gone, Penny woke up from her nap, and Matt took her down to my parents' to spend the night. After I got home, we changed into nicer clothes and went out to Williamsburg to have our anniversary dinner at the Blue Talon Bistro. The atmosphere was a little louder and busier than ideal for a romantic evening, but the food was excellent. (Matt had prime rib; I had lamb shank with an apricot glaze. For dessert we had chocolate mousse and burnt sugar ice cream, because we were curious. The mousse was marvelous; I don't think I'd order the ice cream again.) After dinner we went home and relaxed for an hour, and then we went back out to catch the late viewing of 300. Not the most romantic activity, I know, but we both were interested in seeing the movie, nothing else was playing that we were interested in, and we wanted to take advantage of the fact that Penny was in someone else's care. Anyway, the movie turned out to be an enjoyable popcorn muncher, though we don't want to add the DVD to our collection or anything. Bits of it were rendered goofy in their attempt to match scenes from the comic book too closely. Sunday, thankfully, was a bit more relaxed. Matt and I managed to sleep in until about 8:30, and we loafed around the house until nearly 10:30 before I went to pick Penny up. She had, mercifully, slept straight through the night for my parents, and not woken up until after 7. I took her home, we fed her some lunch, and got her down for a nap (as it was becoming apparent that she may have slept all night, but not necessarily well). After she got up, we went to the grocery store, and then pretty much spent the rest of the day doing the "usual" -- sitting around on the computers or playing with Penny. Which is not the worst way to spend an afternoon and evening. Back at work today. The Network Nazis have struck again -- telnet access is restricted and has to go through a company portal so they can monitor it, now. No more chatting during the day for me! FTP is supposedly shut down as well, but my location was going to apply for a dispensation, so I don't know. I haven't tried it, yet. We'll see. I might have to switch to posting in the evenings. Whee. |
