I apologize for this entry now, but apparently the early-pregnancy narcolepsy started to creep in late last week and has landed on my with both feet, full-force, this morning. I can't stop yawning, and all I want to do is put my head down on my desk and take a nap, even though it's not even 8 yet. So I don't know how coherent I'll be. Not too much happened this weekend, anyway. Saturday morning, I took Penny shopping -- I needed some things from Target anyway, and while we were there, I let her pick out a set of sheets for her new "big-girl" bed. (She went for the Disney princess sheets. Of course. There wasn't much contest, since they didn't have Superman sheets to tempt her.) She also picked out some toys for a couple of friends at school who invited her to their birthday parties. As we were walking by the shoe aisle, she asked me for some shoes which floored me -- she usually hates new shoes. So I told her she couldn't have sandals, since she already has two pairs of those, but she could pick out another pair of school shoes. She went, of course, for the glittery/sparkly pink mary janes. It took us a few tries to find her a pair that fit right and had a little room for growth, and then she was a little sad that I wouldn't let her wear them in the store, but she didn't put up enough of a fuss to make me threaten to put them back on the shelf. She did, however, insist on wearing them the rest of the weekend. Which was fine. (Matt was worried about them getting all messed up, but it doesn't bother me much. There aren't any big dress-up holidays in the near future, and if we can convince her that new shoes aren't toxic, then maybe we can get her some other dress-up shoes when the holidays roll around.) Elizabeth had a Pampered Chef show that afternoon, at which I spent far too much (of course), ate far too much (of course), and immensely enjoyed a couple of hours of girl-talk. Sunday, Penny went to one of the aforementioned birthday parties -- this was at the Williamsburg Indoor Sports Center and was a "gymnastics" theme. We were highly amused by watching the coach try to convince ten or so 3-and 4-year-olds to follow instructions (alas, Penny was one of the worst) but the kids obviously all had lots of fun. ![]() One of the favorite parts was this "pool" -- a sunken trampoline filled with large foam blocks. Alas, I didn't get many pictures -- I took lots, but the room was just a shade too dim for my camera to work well without the flash, and the kids were too far away for the flash to do any good. So they're all blurry or dark. Or both. I need to get a mini-tripod. Or a camera with image stabilization. Penny had one meltdown -- the party happened right across her usual naptime -- but overall was fairly good. Of course, we had her take a nap when we got home, which was short but better than nothing. But it sort of reset her clock, so she dragged her feet at bedtime and wound up going to bed a good half-hour or more later than usual. (Whereas I thought I'd get a jump on the narcolepsy and go to bed early. It didn't seem to do much good. Or maybe it did, and if I'd gone to bed at my usual time, I'd be literally unable to open my eyes right now. Who knows?) And now I'm off for coffee. Decaf, but maybe the illusion will perk me up a little. |
